The Youth Integrity Survey, the first of its kind in Cambodia, was designed to find out how young people understand experience and engage in corruption. Following a nationally representative sample, 1,200 Cambodians aged 15 to 30 were surveyed by their peers in eight provinces.
“The study shows that an overwhelming majority of young Cambodians know that corruption is wrong and that it hurts themselves and society at large”, said Ok Serei Sopheak, Chairman of the Board of TI Cambodia. “However, in an environment where corruption is often seen as the only way to get ahead in life, many of them end up compromising their own ideals. It is crucial that these young people are enabled and empowered to challenge the status quo and change society for the better.”
